Painting Gallery
To paraphrase Thornton Wilder in Our Town, Nature pushes and
contrives in spite of man’s attempt to control it. My work reflects
that struggle. I use layers of transparent liquid acrylic and work quickly
to allow the colors to mix on the canvas to establish darks and lights.
Then I manipulate the surface by scraping, printing with original blocks
and with found and natural objects. “I then glaze over the transparent
undercoat to create new colors. This is when surprises happen.”
At first, viewers see the fruit and bright colors. A closer look, however,
often reveals additional images and meanings. “The fruit takes
on a life of its own.”
All paintings are created with acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas requiring
no frames.
